Chiesa dei SS Giusto e Clemente, Volterra - Pisa in Toscana
La costruzione della chiesa iniziò nel 1627 in sostituzione di quella crollata a causa del processo di erosione delle balze. La facciata in pietra greggia è fiancheggiata da quattro colonne in pietra che sorreggono le statue in cotto di San Giusto, San Clemente, San Lino e Sant’Ottaviano. L’interno ad un’unica navata è un esempio di sobrio barocco. Nel transetto si trova la Madonna delle Grazie dipinta nel 1448 e proveniente dall’antica chiesa distrutta.
L’altare maggiore conserva l’urna con le reliquie dei santi Giusto e Clemente. Davanti all’ingresso dell’oratorio si trova il cosiddetto Gnomone, un interessante orologio solare progettato dal volterrano Giovanni Inghirami nel 1801: la luce penetra da un foro gnomico praticato nella cupoletta di incrocio del transetto e proietta il raggio solare su una linea meridiana di marmo bianco, segnata sul pavimento, indicando per tutto l’anno le ore 12.
